Mitchell's Ice Cream: Discover San Francisco's Beloved Ice Cream Haven

A San Francisco institution for over 70 years. Old school to the core with traditional and tropical flavors, shakes, sundaes and splits. Grasshopper Pie and Peanut Butter Indulgence alongside Halo Halo. Made right there at the shop with sustainable quality ingredients. Take a number. The line moves fast. Or grab a half gallon tub and hit the express lane. Can even deliver. Along with See’s Candies, Pacific Cafe, and the Golden Gate Bridge, life here would be miserable without them.

Omg, this ice cream is the real thing! The Ube is often a hit or miss, but their Ube is perfect. Creamy with bits of Ube, it does taste like real Ube too! Mango Sorbet tastes like its straight from the tree. The sweetness is like a perfectly ripe Philippines Mango. Might have to swing by their store sometime, I just ordered from Uber Eats craving for Mango and Ube.

If you go to San Fran and didn’t stop at Mitchell’s for their amazing ice cream, you will be missing out a lot. Mitchell serves one of the best Mango ice cream, in fact all of their flavors are amazing.

Mitchell's is in my top three for ice cream brands/spots. They somehow make the perfect ube ice cream (for my tastes). It's not too sweetened that it overbears the taste of the yam, but not too bland, and with the right milkiness. I think there are actual ube bits in it, too. That's the flavor I've been getting ever since I first came, because it is just so good. What's even better is being able to take tubs of this stuff home. It's the best. They don't just offer ice cream, but also halo-halo, sundaes, floats, other treats and sweets. Their menu is so varied and even has vegan options! The only issue I see with Mitchell's is its limited space. There's hardly any room to stand during busy hours, both outside and inside, and there's no real seating. I guess it adds to its charm, though. Overall, 4/5.

The best ice cream I've had. The creaminess and smoothness of it all is next to none. Unlike other ice cream varietals, store bought or not, thejr ice cream does not ice out when put in the freezer because of it's fat content. The place is popular enough that they use a ticketing system. You should ignore any line you see and grab a ticket expeditiously. I've tried most of their flavors and I can tell you, their rum raisin is supreme. It's made with two rums. Their lychee is amazing too but I could just be a harlot for lychee. The avocado is novel and amazing to eat in-person. Getting a gallon of it loses a significant amount of the strong avocado flavor found in the fresh version. None of the other flavors I've tried have experience this. Their gallons are strong but the the kids are prone to break by the time you're about 90% done with them. The place has a stickiness to it but they do actually clean it so it's probably a mental stickiness. They're really patient with you as you try all of their flavors and the workers are pretty straightforward with you too about hand-scopped vs. pre-scooped. Honestly, the only thing I would get hand-scooped now is probably the avocado if the batch you just tasted was good.

The best dipped chocolate ice cream EVER!!!!. I have not been able to find any other place with the same quality and quantity. If you are in town or around the area craving ice cream, stop by, you wont regret it. Let me tell you, their eggnog ice cream is AMAZING. Don't hesitate. Only problem, be prepared for the wait time, worth it though!.

I loved that they have parking in the back because that’s a huge deal in SF. Their flavors are very unique, I tried the Thai tea which was amazing as was the espresso toffee crunch. My wife really liked their chocolate caramel crunch flavor too. I was excited to try their ube but unfortunately I sampled it and tasted pretty much no ube flavor it was just purple lol. But I’d def recommend Mitchell’s for anybody that wants good ice cream in the area or wants to switch up from the usual flavors

Listen- this is coming from someone with a dairy intolerance and this place is great. While they do have a smaller selection for “vegan” they do a splendid job at the flavors. I couldn’t decide between vegan matcha or strawberry, sampled both, loved both, and got both! strawberry flavor tasted just as I remembered dairy strawberry to taste & matcha ice cream was delicious and creamy! Parking was limited but had no problem finding a spot in the neighborhood. Add this to your itinerary.
